Queen’s Birthday Beacon

Well done to the Town and District Councils for arranging the Queen’s Birthday beacon and fireworks at the monument. It was lovely to see all the others beacons across South Warwickshire from our vantage point. Special thanks to the 14 volunteers from the Friends of Rowley Fields who acted as marshals.

Queen’s Birthday Great British Bake Off

Several of our members have offered to bake a cake as part of the celebrations on Sunday 12th June, we will be offering slices for donations towards FoRF/ Stratford Cancer & Eye Hospital Appeal.

If you are a budding Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood or simply a keen baker we’d be delighted to hear from you, we could do with a few more cakes if you can help?

Rowley Fields Planning Application

Sadly the Town Trust has submitted a Planning Application to Stratford District Council to demolish 7 Benson Road and build five new houses on the area of Rowley Fields to the rear. Whilst the Trust has been clear of its intention to pursue this application it is sad news for residents of Benson Road and Avenue Road and a worrying development. All the green field land has been identified as Local Green Space in the draft Neighbourhood Plan and many people hoped that the building plans would not proceed. We await the outcome of the planning process.

Town Trust Grant to Support Queens Birthday Picnic celebrations.

We were delighted to receive news in March that our application for a grant from Stratford Town Trust to host a birthday picnic to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday in June was successful. The grant of £400 (part of over £10,00 for events across Stratford) will allow us to hire a portable loo and marquee and will support some of the days attractions. The community day will be free and bring people together from right across Stratford to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday in beautiful surroundings.

Local Green Space Designation

As part of our continued efforts to push for Local Green Space designation for Rowley Fields Committee members having been meeting political representatives during 2016. We have lobbied Tony Jefferson, Town Councillor for the Welcombe Ward and District Councillor, Keith Lloyd also Town Councillor for the Welcombe Ward and County Councillor and Nadhim Zahawi our Member of Parliament.

All three meetings were positive and we now await the adoption of the District Core Strategy and then the Neighbourhood Plan which will hopefully recommend Rowley Fields as LGS.

Grass Maze

We are delighted to report that our competition to design a grass maze with the three local primary schools has resulted in well over 100 entries from children in years 3 – 6. The winner will be invited to officially open the maze at our Birthday Picnic on 12th June and will receive a prize from our 90 year old Guest of Honour. We have certificates to present to every child who has submitted an entry and all the designs will be on display on 12th.

The picnic will take place at Rowley Fields between 1pm and 5pm and will also include, a miniature musical fairground organ, walking family treasure hunt, strolling players performing parts from Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors, vintage car display, cake sale and Annie’s Antics Ice Cream Van, Touch FM.

The Birthday Picnic is free, with guests simply invited to bring their own picnic and enjoy the attractions whilst soaking up the beautiful natural environment of Rowley Fields. Thanks go to Stratford Town Trust for use of the fields and for a small grant to help support the event.

PLEASE JOIN US ON 12th JUNE and make the day a huge success, bring your neighbours and friends along too.

Treasure Hunt certificate of thanks

Thank you to everyone who supported the Treasure Hunt on 27th December 2015, either as a volunteer helper or participant. Although the weather was awful and the fields badly waterlogged around 50 hardy souls still braved the conditions and took part. Some starting and finishing in the rain! We raised almost £130 for Stratford Cancer & Eye Hospital Appeal and presented hampers to the winning team and raffle winner. Thank you to Stratford Town Trust and Stratford District Council for supporting the event.

We were delighted to receive a certificate the Chief Executive of South Warwickshire Hospitals in recognition of our efforts.
